Commitment to global dialog in the anniversary year

DEKRA joins World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos

Jan 17, 2025

DEKRA, the world's largest independent non-listed expert organization in the field of testing, inspection and certification (TIC), will take part in the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The decision to participate comes in a special year: DEKRA is celebrating its 100th anniversary and, at the same time, is strengthening its commitment to global responsibility to develop sustainable and safe solutions for the pressing challenges of our time.

"Our involvement in the World Economic Forum reflects our commitment to global collaboration, which is essential to enable a safe, secure and sustainable future," explains Stan Zurkiewicz, CEO of DEKRA. "According to data from the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), 2024 marked the first year that global average temperatures surpassed 1.5 ĀŗC above pre-industrial levels. This underlines that we can no longer wait for tomorrow. We need decisive action today."

Sustainability: Involvement in the CEO Climate Leaders Group

As a new member of the WEF's CEO Climate Leaders group, DEKRA is further intensifying its focus on sustainability. The organization is committed to science-based climate targets (SBTi) consistent with the 1.5-degree objective of the Paris Agreement and offers a growing range of innovative services around energy transition and ESG. "Despite recent shifts in political discourse across several countries, climate change remains the greatest challenge of our generation. Through our engagement with the WEF, we aim to demonstrate leadership on this defining issue of our time," says Zurkiewicz.

Strengthening trust in the digital transformation

Digital trust, with a particular focus on cyber security and artificial intelligence (AI), is a key theme at this year's WEF. "The remarkable advancements in AI offer tremendous potential but also introduce new ethical and technical challenges. Meanwhile, cyber security continues to rank among the most critical global risks for nations, organizations, and individuals alike. DEKRA contributes to creating trust, safety, and security in these areas through global expertise and innovative solutions. The focus of our work is on quality management systems, training, risk assessments and the development of testing and certification procedures. This is how we help companies and society to shape the future with confidence," emphasizes the CEO.

Mobility: market and innovation leader in EV tests

As the world's largest provider of periodic technical inspections (PTI), DEKRA provides a wide range of solutions for the future of mobility. "The accelerated adoption of electric vehicles depends on a well-functioning used car market, which requires reliable methods to assess battery condition. Our innovative EV ā€˜State of Healthā€™ tests provide this reliability, enabling trust in pre-owned electric vehicles and reinforcing our commitment to safe and sustainable mobility for the future," explains Zurkiewicz.
The company has developed a patented battery test that enables extremely precise measurement of the condition of used electric vehicle batteries in just a few minutes. DEKRA already offers this test for more than 130 electric car models. The testing organization is also investing in state-of-the-art testing facilities to ensure the safety and reliability of electric vehicles. A new DEKRA battery testing and certification laboratory in Klettwitz (Brandenburg, Germany) is due to open in the second half of 2025. "In this state-of-the-art laboratory, we will be able to test battery systems for electric vehicles and high-voltage storage systems for other applications from the early development phase through validation to final acceptance and certification," adds Stan Zurkiewicz.

World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos: Global platform for dialog and solutions

The WEF in Davos, Switzerland, is an annual meeting of international leaders from business, politics, science and society. It was founded in 1971 by German economist Klaus Schwab and has developed into one of the most important platforms for global dialog. The aim of the WEF is to find solutions to global challenges such as climate change, economic crises, social inequality and technological innovations. Every year, high-ranking decision-makers meet in Davos to discuss current issues and promote cooperation in panel discussions, workshops and networking sessions.
